Theaters Nationwide Adopting Uniform COVID-19 Safety Standards

September 2, 2020

As Americans start to go back to the movies, the nation's theater operators want to ensure they are greeted with the safest environment possible.

As U.S. theaters reopen from the pandemic-forced shutdown, the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) has announced a voluntary nationwide set of health and safety protocols.

The standards have been adopted by thousands of locations nationwide, including those owned by Cinemark, AMC and Regal Cinemas.

The program, known as CinemaSafe, is based on guidelines from the CDC, OSHA and the World Health Organization.

NATO President/CEO John Fithian discussed the safety protocols and the future of the theater industry with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
